As a national broadcast partner with Skillset, Propeller has a remit to ensure excellence, not only in the programming it shows, but in the advice, guidance and support it passes on to new talent trying to make their break in the industry. Currently, about 1 in 10 of the films submitted to the channel actually make it to broadcast. This is often because filmmakers have not been aware of simple professional broadcast requirements such as compliance forms or music cue sheets. They also might have overlooked some technical transmission requirements or could be infringing OFCOM requirements.

Unlike many broadcasters however, Propeller does not simply reject this work, but endeavours to work with the filmmaker to develop a viable and broadcastable product by improving their skills, production knowledge and programme making expertise. The intention is that as this knowledge base amongst film makers grows, Propeller will be able to reject less and show more creative, inspiring, original work and contribute towards Skillset’s objective of ensuring the best possible support is available to budding professionals to help keep the UK at the top of the film and television industry.

Film and television continues to move rapidly into new dimensions, not only through the mass availability of cameras and laptops which enable people to have limitless opportunities for film making, but also the fantastic wealth of material generated by Screen Agencies, Universities and independent producers. Propeller has seized a unique position firmly at the forefront of this broadcast revolution.
