Łódź (pronounced Wudj!!) is more or less in the centre of Poland and is a city with a fascinating history – it was once dubbed the 'Manchester of Poland' because of its industrial and manufacturing base. However, up until 1918 it was in Russia! Łódź is also the home of the very famous Film School, with some equally famous protégés, like Polanski and Kieslowski, and has an enviable reputation for supporting home grown talent.

- The Łódź region is the centre of a large media cluster of agencies, concerned with the promotion of the region's film talent and the development of the region’s economy through new media industries. The agencies involved include the Film School, the University, the Polytechnic, several important production companies and the City Hall itself. Estimates are that the New Media Cluster will create 30,000 new workplaces in the city.
- The need for more and better links to offer better opportunities for new talent coming into the industry was felt very keenly by the leaders of the Łódź Film School. Discussion has already taken place between representatives of the Yorkshire region and the Łódź region about work placements, opportunities for students and co-operation in areas of academic expertise, involving exchange programmes and seminars.
- The representatives of the Łódź Media cluster are very keen also to take advantage of Propeller's expertise in showcasing the work of new film talent and developing outlets for their own students.
- Łódź has its own film festival, called 'Camerimage' taking place in November and December showcasing the work of new talent and the region maintains links with festivals held in Britain.
- Łódź has a 60-year-old tradition of filmmaking and has the largest archive of Polish cinematography in the world but is also looking to the future and hopes to become the home to the first digital cinema in Poland.
